Microsoft's Surface Pro (64GB) will only have 23GB of usable storage.

While being in denial and blaming PC manufacturers in poor windows 8 sales, Microsoft tries to set an unusual example on building a good tablet.

If you plan to pick up a Microsoft's Surface Pro tablet on February 9th, don't be surprised to find only 1/3 of promised storage space. A company spokesperson has reported that the 64GB edition of Surface Pro will only have 23GB of free storage out of the box. The rest 41GB is taken up by Windows 8 install, apps and a recovery partition.

Every new Windows iteration (including Vista) has boosted PC sales in the past, but sadly Windows 8 has failed to leave a mark on the desktop and laptop market, largely because of the negative response to the tablet interface on a desktop OS.
And now it seems that the desktop part of the OS turns out to be a detriment to the tablets as well with its large storage footprint.

When compared to Apple, even a 32GB iPad beats the 64GB Surface with its 28GB free storage.
So get ready to purchase a microSDXC card or carry around an external hard drive with your $900 tablet, since it lacks mobile connectivity for streaming media or cloud storage, which iPad does and for $200 cheaper.[The Verge]
